RSP support in 6th, 7th, and 8th Math and English classes

I have been teaching since 2012 and I joined the staff of King Middle School in 2022. I'm happy to be part of the King community. I earned my master’s at Cal State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) and my undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Being the first in my family to graduate from college, I recognized the impact of education, motivating me to choose a career in teaching. History is my favorite subject, and I enjoy constructing my family tree, preserving stories from my elders, and learning about my ancestors.

The best books I read in middle school: R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series of horror fiction novels
My favorite song or band in middle school: Tons of songs by Janet Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Paula Abdul
My favorite place to spend time outdoors: Anywhere there is a pool on a hot summer day
When I’m not at school, you can find me: Caretaking for my elderly grandmother
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received: From my high school English teacher. She had us start every class period repeating the quote, “There is freedom in choices, there is no freedom in consequences, so think before you act or speak so you can make responsible decisions.”
Fun fact: I have completed four marathons, including one in Athens, Greece.

Josephyne Rogers Lam

Assistant Principal of ESM and School Counseling Services

I've been working for the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1999 and at King Middle School since 2015. I'm a proud product of LAUSD and have worked as a high school counselor for 15 years before becoming an Assistant Principal. I'm the first generation in my family to graduate from a university, holding a Bachelor of Science in Child Development and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, at Cal State Fullerton. I also completed my Master's Degree and credentials in School Counseling and Leadership, at Cal State Los Angeles. My responsibilities include overseeing the Guidance and Special Education Department, Mental Health, and the Environmental STEAM Magnet. We have a great team of teachers and staff. I enjoy serving and supporting the King Community. Every day is a new learning opportunity, and I hope you feel the same way.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received: My mother's unwavering patience, optimism, and ability to see the best in everyone is truly inspiring. Her advice to take feedback as an opportunity for growth is something I strive to live by every day.
Fun fact: When I was younger, I loved skateboarding and even have a scar from one of my skateboarding adventures. This experience taught me that it's important to pursue the things you love, even if there are risks involved. During the pandemic, I discovered a new passion for running. It's amazing how something as simple as running can help you feel alive and motivated. I wish I can continue so now I am just happy being an avid walker. My goal is to strive for 10K+ steps daily. Are you in?
